MEET
Mark Mitchell
Some will love you, some will hate you - you control none of it.- M. Mitchell
How do you contribute to Starr Tincup excellence?
My superior ping-pong skills – the idea of beating me gives the people something to aspire to.
What is your favorite marketing cliché?
If by favorite, you mean least favorite..."We need you to go back and sharpen your pencils on this" which translates to "I'm a cheap bastard that doesn't value marketing, so I'm gonna need you to knock 40% off just 'cause I asked in a round-about and indirect way."
What were you doing before you came to work at ST?
Traveling the world without a care.
Who would win in a fight William or Bret?
If William lands a good punch early, William. Otherwise, Bret has the edge on stamina if it goes more than one round...unless William fights dirty. So, pretty much William.
If ST were a reality show which one would it be?
I'd love to say "West Wing" because of our fast-paced banter and super relevant subject matter. However, it's probably more like "Punked" or the show "Wipeout" that ABC totally ripped off from Japan's "Extreme Challenge".
What's the most unusual thing you have ever tossed off the fire escape?
My pride.
What's your favorite all-time pet?
My dog, Parker. We've never fought, he doesn't hold a grudge and he poops in the same place every time, which really helps out with the clean up.
What is the stupidest thing you did in school?
Smuggled a bottle of vodka on a junior high choir trip to Dallas ... that my mother chaperoned. Actually, that wasn't the stupid part. In hindsight, that was goddamn brilliant. It was bragging about it later that really screwed me.
When did you realize you were an alcoholic?
I'm Irish, in addition to blarney, we're born with a certain self awareness.
What song changed your life?
“Omaha” by Counting Crows grace and melody meet and have a lovechild. Also "Iris" by Live. It's simultaneously violent and poetic.
What is your favorite movie and why?
“The Last of the Mohicans” Best everything, score, villain, love story, fight scenes, etc. Daniel Day-Lewis is the man. Wes Studi is the best villain since Darth Vader
What's your life philosophy?
Learned at a VERY young age: Some will love you, some will hate you - you control none of it.
Who is your role model?
To hell with role models. Role models just end up confessing to sleeping with a close relative and then OD on some seedy hotel floor. Mentors are much better. Nobody has it all right. Find different people who have different aspects you admire and start emulating those specific traits.
Tell us your best celebrity encounter story
Met Adam Duritz and the rest of Counting Crows back stage after a concert. Super cool guys. They didn't even snicker when I screamed like a 10-year-old girl after they signed their CD for me.
